Warren Barguil suffered another crash in the last stage of the Tour of Catalunya. He was forced to abandon the race after sustaining cuts on his elbow and knee, as well as a haematoma on his hip. The Arkea-Samsic leader will assess the situation on Monday and will however take a few days off.
Yvon Ledanois (sports director) : “Because of the crash that occurred on the Montjuic circuit, the race was secondary today. It happened in the first third of the peloton and 25 riders went down, including Warren. He got bruises on his knee and elbow as well as a haematoma on his hip. He told me that if he were to still feel pain on Monday he would undergo an x-ray. Thankfully, he was going into a non-competition period before the Fleche Brabanconne, the Tour des Alpes and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. He will be able to recover and I think he will need time for that. On the bike, he had a good Tour of Catalunya even if he did not have great sensations today. I think that everyone was tired. It’s a very hard and fast race. It was reassuring to see Warren work despite his ribs pain but today he added another crash to this…”
Jean-Jacques Menuet , team doctor: “We will have to monitor the haematoma on his hip. Tomorrow he will assess the situation with his physiotherapist, it’s only then that we will draw conclusions from this crash. If there’s a slight doubt, he will undergo an x-ray.”
