Hugh Harvey to join ARKEA-B&B HOTELS Developpement

Hugh Harvey is a young Australian who is “brand new” to cycling. He came from rowing and moved to Europe a few months ago, where he made a definitive switch to cycling, demonstrating excellent sprinting skills.

In Hugh’s own words:

“I’m super happy. Excited even at the idea of becoming a professional cyclist in 2024 – at the end of my first season in the sport – with the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS Développement team. It’s a new sport for me, but I’m very motivated. I’ve been rowing for four years, at national level. I was in an eight with a coxswain. I chose to come to Europe to progress in cycling, after stopping my rowing career. This is my first time in Europe. I currently live in the Netherlands. I took this step to succeed in sport. I started running, and I quickly saw that I had sprinting qualities. My ambitions for next year as part of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS Développement team will be to develop to a higher level as a rider, breaking new ground to prove my qualities as a sprinter. As the seasons go by, my wish is to represent ARKEA-B&B HOTELS at the highest level, by winning races, but also by helping my team-mates to do the same”.

Emmanuel Hubert, General Manager

“We were looking for a sprinter for the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS Développement team, and it was Jasper Vaeck, coach with the WorldTour team, who spotted a young Australian, Hugh Harvey. This demonstrates the cross-disciplinary nature of our different structures. Jasper also cross-referenced a large amount of data from tests with Hugh’s already promising sporting results, and in just a few months he has already won a race and a points classification. We also noticed that when this young rider wasn’t winning, he was often winning sprints in the peloton. Hugues Harvey is very new to cycling, as only a few months ago he was still rowing. He chose to come to Europe in order to progress in our sport. Cycling was one of his preparation methods. But he very quickly switched to competing in our sport. Hugh is a promising sprinter, and we’re going to support and train him so that he can fulfil his potential at the highest level in the future”.
