The first stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné won by Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) was a high-level, leg-snapping one. Warren Barguil, happy to be back on the World Tour stage, passed the test. Even if he is aware of the work he still has to do, the leader of Team Arkea Samsic is satisfied.
Warren Barguil : “Bike racing is hard (laughter). Today I was back to the World Tour, two months after crashing at the Tour of Catalunya. I’m happy to finish in the first group, but I’m aware of the work that I still have to do. I was impatient to be on the Dauphine, to fight with the best. It’s a long road, but my form is improving.”
Florian Vachon : “There won’t be a lot of opportunities for the sprinters. For Andre, the goal is to get to the flat stages as fresh as possible. Until then we have to spare energy every day, just like we did today. This week I’m here for Andre, I have to protect him in the climbs and on the run-up to the sprints. We have to create something, get into a rhythm. Working for leader is my job, it doesn’t matter who I have to protect. We exchange in Fren-glish, but when we’re in action the words are pretty simple.”
