Today was the Tour de France stage that suited Arkea Samsic the less. Thorough and compact, the team limited the damage and lost less than two minutes to stage winners Jumbo Visma.
Warren Barguil: “It’s a specific effort and this is not the team we have on team time trials during the season so it’s always a bit peculiar. We communicated well even if we lacked a few markers, it was alright. On that kind of TTT you have to take short turns and keep the speed steady for as long as possible. I like this event, it did not go too bad, it shows the cohesion of a team.”
Yvon Ledanois: “ I’m disappointed by our placing but I’m happy with the time. We’re second to last but when I see how much we’ve lost on big teams who were putting much more time into us in the past, it’s not that bad. Of course we’re not getting carried away. Today one team was above the cut – Jumbo Visma. We lose 45 seconds to Movistar who are at a high level and have already won team time trials. In this stage Warren Barguil was good, and so was Maxime Bouet who likes the TTTs. We know we don’t have great specialists so we can’t really compete with the best. Tomorrow will be a bit wild because of the gaps after the team time trial. There will be a breakaway but Jumbo Visma will want to keep the jersey. The finale is tough with a series of leg-snapping hills. It won’t be a packed bunch at the end.”
