Amaury Capiot wins stage 3 of the Boucles de la Mayenne

Amaury Capiot won the third stage of the Boucles de la Mayenne after a bunch sprint in Château-Gonthier. It was his second victory this year and the 11th win of the season for the Arkéa-Samsic team.

“We had a card up front with Connor in an eight-man breakaway. He slipped into this move to close the gap in the overall classification. The peloton came back to his group in the last kilometre. I decided to start my sprint from a distance of 250 metres so I wouldn’t be blocked. It’s just extraordinary to win this stage! On Thursday I had good legs but I couldn’t express myself fully. Today, I did my sprint, I was able to produce my effort and that was enough to win.”

Roger Tréhin, sport director

“We had decided to be offensive in the final either with Connor as he did or even with Romain Hardy or Kévin Ledanois. If with two laps to go, we could see that a bunch sprint was coming, it had to be everything for Amaury because we knew he was in good shape. Yesterday, he showed himself at ease on a course that was less suitable for him. So we were quite optimistic for today with this slightly uphill finish, it was perfect for him. The Boucles de la Mayenne are already a success. We will try to get closer to the general classification. That’s what we wanted to do with Connor today. There is still a nice stage left tomorrow. Why not do it again?”

Emmanuel Hubert, general manager

“This is a historic day for the Arkea-Samsic and Arkea Pro Cycling Team! What a joy to see Yuliia raise her arms in Germany, and that a few minutes later Amaury answered her in a powerful sprint on the Mayenne. Winning is never easy, but here our colours shone through our men’s and women’s structures almost simultaneously, which makes me proud. Thank you Yuliia and Amaury for giving us this double moment of joy and intensity that only men’s and women’s sport can allow us to experience.”
