Critérium du Dauphiné (Stage 5): Matîs Louvel 9th
Ninth in the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné (Thizy-les-Bourgs – Chaintré), Matîs Louvel signed his best performance in UCI WorldTour.
“It was the easiest stage on paper, but the altitude difference was concentrated at the beginning and at the end, we had to get through the difficulties. The start was very fast. The team put me in a good position on the final stretch, I was hanging on but I was really going for it.
In the last straight line, shortly after the kilometer, I got locked in. This is my first top ten in the UCI WorldTour, it shows that I am progressing and it motivates me for the future.”
“The stage ended in a sprint but it was not an easy day. The breakaway took a little time to start, we wanted to be at the front but we did not succeed. I am happy to see Matîs Louvel in the top ten. He’s a quiet kid but he’s moving up in the hierarchy and getting closer to the best.”
