Donavan Grondin: "My greatest reward"

Bronze medallist at the Tokyo Games in the USA, Donavan Grondin is competing in the Egmont Cycling Race.

Pre-race

“This Olympic bronze medal is the fulfilment of all the sacrifices I have made over the years, the reward for my investment in the track. It is also important for my team, Arkéa-Samsic, which has always supported me in my approach and has done everything possible to ensure that my road programmes correspond to those of the French track endurance team.

The edition of these Olympic Games was specific because of the health crisis, it felt more like the Track World Championships than the Olympic Games. Nevertheless, I was able to enjoy the special atmosphere of the Games on the last day by going to the village and taking, one great moment like our arrival in France at Charles de Gaulle, and then this reception at the Trocadero with the medallists from Tokyo and the public, it was also very strong. This Olympic medal is my greatest sporting reward since the beginning of my career.

Now I will switch back to a road programme until the end of the season, then at the end of the month of october I have to compete in the World Championships on the track, and at least do the American race with Benjamin Thomas again. But before that, it’s time for the road race. I will ride the Egmont Cycling Race. Track and road are two different disciplines, but I think this medal will help me a bit for the road, too”.”
