On the line

“One word to sum up this day: hard! The climb of San Luca is really steep and it’s not the kind of effort I like the most, but I tried to hang on to the group of favourites as long as possible. I cracked at the end of the race and I finished at my own pace. I finished at the edge of my hunger. It had also been a long time since I had ridden a one-day race, and I didn’t know where I stood. I was aiming for the top 20 and I’m there. It’s encouraging considering the field here, almost at UCI WolrdTour level. I think that for a first time on the Giro dell’Emilia, I can be satisfied with that. It’s again experience for the future. Thanks also to all my team-mates who were at the top during the whole race”.

The debrief

“The course of this race is a typical climber, you just have to look at the race record. Kevin Vauquelin is discovering this type of competition alongside the leaders of the Grand Tours, so it’s very good for a first experience. Élie Gesbert, unfortunately, had a bad day. That doesn’t forgive. The rest of the group did the work perfectly for Kévin who will work hard on the last climb of San Luca to get a place in the top 20”.
