Giro (Stage 5) - Yvon Caër: "We had done everything right…"

David Dekker sprinted in Salerno, but unfortunately he took off his shoes in the middle of the effort. Besides David, Alan Riou and Warren Barguil went down, but all three of them went back to the Arkéa-Samsic team bus after the finish.

The debrief

“A sprint was planned in Salerno. And we saw one such finish.  The Arkéa-Samsic team did everything possible to ensure that David arrived here in optimal conditions. All his team-mates did their bit, whether it was Maxime who rode at the front of the pack behind the breakaway riders to maintain a reasonable gap, or Warren, Alan, Thibault and Clément who, as the finish line approached, placed David in the best possible way. David took off during the sprint, and fell once he had crossed the finish line. He went back to the bus, as did Warren and Alan who went to the ground early in the final stage. All three of them have dermabrasions. Tonight I really want to remember the work of the whole team. After a sprint it’s still a sprint. David was once again fighting with the best sprinters of this Giro. That is what I want to remember tonight. I am sure that the automatisms between David and his train will be beneficial to him and to the whole Arkéa-Samsic team without delay”.
