Grand Prix de Wallonie, Ewen Costiou: "I had a lot of fun "

The Grand Prix de Wallonie was marked by the great breakaway of Ewen Costiou, who rode his first race in our colours. At the top of the Citadelle of Namur, Warren Barguil finished in 10th position. The third one in a row in three races.

“Warren told me to go for it, and as I was feeling pretty good, I attacked in the climb. I came back to the leading group, and once I was in this position of the race, Arnaud Gérard advised me to give it my all, while enjoying myself. I did this by accelerating in the climb, the rest of the breakaway didn’t follow me, and afterwards I tried to go as far as possible. My wish was to make a last big break in favour of Warren in the last climb. I didn’t manage to do it, but I’m still happy. As far as experience in one race is concerned, I learnt a lot in one race where it was fast, with a high level. I was with experienced riders, alongside Warren Barguil. That’s great. I’m looking forward to January 1st 2023, when I’ll be riding for the pros with the team. This Grand Prix of Wallonia has given me a lot of confidence. It’s cool to show off like this and it also gives me confidence before the U23 World Championships next week in Australia”.

The debrief

“Warren in my opinion was a bit short on recovery with Canada, I think. He was in good condition, but with Quebec and Montreal it was maybe a bit difficult. In any case, he showed himself to be present, regular and will take an important 10th place. We had a good team that did its job well. We left an opening for him to make a move but the other teams didn’t follow. In any case, I remember this great first time in our colours in such a high level race and it bodes well for the future. It’s a very good start, it’s nice to see a rider of his age in front of a UCI proseries. It’s very encouraging for the next few months”.
