On the line

“Another great day! At all levels, weather, race, because it never stopped from the start to the finish, this edition of the Tre Valli Varesine proposed a very difficult course made of a succession of climbs and descents, and then, the rain and the cold which invited themselves and made this event even more difficult. The day was really tough. I made a small mistake at the beginning of the race when I tried to get away and I rode several kilometres alone, these left cartridges maybe cost me some extra energy in the final to try to get a better place. Anyway, I am more satisfied tonight than at the end of the Giro Dell’Emilia where I wasn’t very good and I am very disappointed because last week I did a big training week. This Tre Valli Varesine reassures me about my condition and pays back the work and sacrifices I made last week in training. With six-seven kilometres to go, I was still in the group with Pogacar and some big leaders, but we were only about twenty in front. My place at the finish doesn’t necessarily reflect my race, but that’s the way it is, that’s the law of sport, at least today where I was and with which riders I was at the end of the race.

The debrief

“It was another Dantean day with terrible weather conditions, but that’s no excuse because they are the same for everyone. We are in our place on these Tre Valli Varesine against a lot of confirmed riders, even leaders. I take my hat off to Maxime, Anthony fought as hard as he could. The objective without us and the devaluation was to place Maxime in the top 20 because of the field, we are almost there. From the moment when the riders in such conditions give their maximum and at the speed at which it goes, we can’t have any regrets. There is nothing more to say”.
