Nairo Quintana: "I tried on these last two Pyrenean stages”

Nairo Quintana tried to get into the breakaway today, as he did yesterday, but in vain. The general classification teams have again locked the race.

On the line…

“I couldn’t reach our goal of the polka dot jersey, but I tried to score points for the best climber classification in this Tour de France every time I had the chance to do it, but my capital wasn’t enough against a rider like Pogacar who has been fighting for this trophy for two days. I tried to get into the breakaways in the last two Pyrenees stages, but each time the groups I belonged to could never take enough time. There were always teams riding hard behind us. That’s the game of the race. We were also reduced in number compared to teams that still have their full squad and Pogacar in particular that wanted to win stages with double points at the finish for the best climber classification”.

The débrief’

“The objective at the beginning of the stage was to try to catch the breakaway, unfortunately we had to face the fact that despite our good intentions, many riders are stronger than us at the end of the Tour”.
