On the line

“It’s good to finish this Tour de Romandie on a positive note and to have been able to compete for the victory in the sprint at the end of the last stage in Geneva. There were some stages that could have been suitable for sprinters on paper in this race, especially the first two, but many teams rode very fast in the climbs in order to get rid of as many fast riders as possible. To have had this possibility to express myself today is a good thing. I finished 6th and I am not satisfied with this result. There was a little bit better to do, I think.  But to compete in a sprint on such a proposed course and a UCI WorldTour event, I am happy, all the same. I know that the efforts I made on this Tour de Romandie will pay off in the coming weeks”.

The debrief’

“The week was complicated with the early retirement of Kevin Vauquelin. But we won’t look for excuses. We had to re-mobilise ourselves around newly defined objectives. We tried, and today the whole team concentrated on Luca. He was decramped twice in the climbs, but he was able to fight his way back into the peloton. He competed in the sprint in Geneva and finished 6th. This is the proof that he is in good shape after a short break after Paris-Roubaix. Now he has to capitalize on this good end of the Tour de Romandie for the next races”.
