Tour de Wallonie (stage 3) : an opportunistic Kévin Vauquelin!

On the 3rd stage of the Tour de Wallonie that arrived in Rochefort, the Arkéa Samsic team surprised the peloton in the last kilometres by trying to outwit the sprinter teams’ plans. Caught by the lead-out trains in the very last kilometre, Kévin Vauquelin tells us about it.

“I did my special move today! (laughs) But the day was very difficult, the breakaway took a long time to get out. The end of the stage was quite nervous. There were some hills in the last twenty kilometres. Five kilometres from the finish, on one of the climbs, Laurent Pichon came up to me and said “let’s go”. We quickly gained a few meters of advantage and then he stepped aside to let me finish the job. The sprinters’ teams didn’t follow right away and I had up to 15 seconds of advance. Some large straight roads and a false flat in the last kilometre didn’t make it easy for me. I was caught again at the 700 meter sign. Since the beginning, this Tour de Wallonie is very tough but the feeling is getting better and better every day and this kind of effort will be beneficial for the future.”
