On the line

We managed well until 3-4 kilometres from the finish, then in the last kilometre I lost the wheel of Clément. We made some small mistakes, but we’ll discuss it quietly between us. Other opportunities will come our way anyway between now and Madrid. I also made mistakes on the approach to the line. I’m disappointed with the result tonight, but we’re still focused on our goal: to win the stage.

It was a sea wind that blew during the final of this stage, I was stuck on the left even if I was well sheltered from the wind. I couldn’t get Dan out of the ball afterwards. He managed to get out of it by going on the right side of the road because he had lost my wheel.

He finished 6th. We will have other opportunities and we have the means to win this vuelta, Dan is in great condition. It’s a real pleasure to work for him, he deserves a nice victory here and we will do everything to make sure he gets it.

The debrief

The sprint was very close without a team really leading. Dan might have come out a bit early but Groves was really on top. There will be other opportunities for Dan in this Vuelta for sure”.
