Warren Barguil: "I'm racing at home”

Warren Barguil will be the “regional” rider of the Bretagne Classic- Ouest France, which will start in Plouay and finish on the same site.

Pre-race

“The Bretagne Classic-Ouest France is the race on the professional calendar that is closest to my home, it is always motivating to race at “home” in front of family and friends. I’m in pretty good shape after the Tour du Limousin, and I hope to be able to express myself well tomorrow. After the Bretagne Classic- Ouest France is a World-Tour event so the level will be high, like all the one day races you also need to have luck on your side. In the final stages, we’ll have a lot of small races, and it can be very unpredictable at that point, the scenario is not necessarily written in advance like in some other races on the calendar. We mustn’t get trapped, and I repeat, we must have luck on our side.

The briefing

Roger Tréhin

“Warren and I will be at home tomorrow. We did the reconnaissance of this event on Wednesday, Warren did the last 80 kilometres, and I did the last 100. This race has been run for a few years in a row, and it finishes on roads, precisely in the last 80 kilometres, which are very narrow with a one and a half kilometre gravel climb, which is the novelty of this 2021 edition. It is also a very hilly race with more than 4000 meters of difference in altitude for 250 kilometres to cover for the riders. The difficulties are quite concentrated. There is also a bump at the entrance of the final circuit, the climb of Marta, and the Montée du Pont-Neuf, which is situated less than three kilometres from the finish line. Last year it was the puncheurs who managed to get out at this point. We will protect Connor and Warren so that they can be in the game in the final of this Breton World Tour classic”.
