Kévin Vauquelin was in the lead for many kilometres in this third round of the Challenge Mallorca, and he did the kind of cycling he likes, namely attacking. Élie Gesbert and Warren Barguil also wanted to go forward and were at the front. Warren finished 8th of this Trofeo Serra Tramutana.

“It was a beautiful day! We wanted to see how the race was going and it was planned to go for it, especially for me because of my profile and the course of the race, it was more beneficial for me to race at the front rather than in the middle of the pack without being able to serve my team-mates. I had a lot of fun, I felt good and it was great to ride up the climbs without having to rub my feet, to be able to turn like that. I think that this day will be beneficial for the future. I started to get my bearings, I had fun and I rode the bike I like”.

The DS’ debrief
“The early races are already very committed as we could see in this third round of the Challenge Mallorca. The Arkea-Samsic team is present in the debates, as it was the case today with the presence of Kévin Vauquelin in the breakaway. When a group of strong riders broke away, Elie was in the fight with them, which is a good sign. Warren was also at the front in this race where the strong riders fought hard. Warren was in the fight until the end, he finished 8th in this 3rd round of the Challenge Mallorca”.

“The guys did a great job for me, I dropped out on the last long climb of the day with only one kilometre to go. There was still Elijah in front, and he dropped out just a little bit further, but managed to bridge up. I stayed in my rhythm. I was with a rider from Bora, and in the end, we didn’t manage to get to the top. We caught up with Élie who had dropped out in front and he threw his last strength into the battle by taking a relay from me. I rode 25 km alone because my companion, Zwiehoff, was not passing. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to do it, but just because he couldn’t because of cramps. We were close to the finish, with 500 meters to go we even had them in our sights. The finish was a bumpy one and it corresponded to my qualities. I am disappointed that I didn’t make it back, and that I couldn’t play for the win. But it was done with my leg. Even if I didn’t miss much. I still have some work to do, but the condition at the beginning of the season is not too bad.
