Élie Gesbert was on the attack yesterday and showed his good form at the beginning of the season by taking 7th place this afternoon in Port Andratx.

“It was fast all day again and the Movistar team showed their ambitions very quickly and they rode to favour Valverde’s plans today on a stage that suited him. His team controlled the whole day well and the race was once again very fast from start to finish. I didn’t necessarily have a very good feeling because of the high average speed of the race but I rode the final climb without calculating too much. In such situations, there is only one alternative to hold on to: to tear yourself away. I am satisfied with my physical shape after the first races of the season, the results could have been a little bit better, but I can already say that the winter preparation was good, the work well done. The shape is there, and that’s a good sign”.

Roger Tréhin: “Another intense day and a stage that was done by elimination because on the last climb the peloton was down to about 40 riders. Elie and Warren were part of it together with their four team-mates. Valverde won in the end, whereas Elie took a nice 7th place. Warren confirmed his good condition at the beginning of the season by taking 14th place.”
