Classic Grand Besançon Doubs, Maxime Bouet: « The Belvédère de Montfaucon as decider »

The Classic Grand Besançon Doubs opens the triptych of events in Eastern France, with a finish for puncheurs in the streets of Montfaucon, near Besançon.

“The Classic Grand Besançon Doubs was a first for me in 2022, and I had been in the lead throughout the event. The race is quite simple with the double climb of the finish hill which is difficult, but it’s a very good race. The Classic Grand Besançon Doubs opens the triptych of events in the East, with a finish for puncheurs in the streets of Montfaucon, near Besançon. You have to be in a good position at that moment, because the road before the Belvedere of Montfaucon is flat with curves, and you attack right away with high percentages. The best riders generally express themselves during this difficulty, it is done with the pedal. And often the victory is decided there. Last year, Elijah had a very good race and finished close to the podium and the win. I hope it will be the same this year.”

Roger Tréhin, sports director

“The Classic Grand Besançon Doubs often smiles to the puncheurs-grimpeurs. It’s a race with a fairly hilly profile overall, but the decision is usually made in the final stretch, with the Belvédère de Montfaucon climb at the finish, which the riders have to climb twice. We will have a homogeneous group on this event capable of doing well with Élie Gesbert, Cristián Rodríguez and Ewen Costiou, who we saw at his best last Tuesday on the roads of Paris-Camembert”.
