Eschborn-Frankfurt, Hugo Hofstetter's comeback
Hugo Hofstetter will compete again in the German classic, Eschborn-Frankfurt, an event where sprinters often succeed.
Pre-race
“My crash on the Circuit de la Sarthe cost me participation in Paris-Camembert and Paris-Roubaix, two races that were close to my heart. I wasn’t in good spirits because of that, but on the other hand I was able to regenerate myself after a very good start of the season. I see the positive in any situation. I had three weeks without racing, and that will maybe give me more freshness for the rest of the season. There are two ways of looking at this fall, and I took the better one. I have been able to recover, and after my convalescence, which required a lot of energy, I have been able to do a good block of training. I have raced once in my career in Eschborn-Frankfurt and I came here for the victory. It is a UCI World-Tour event and I went to this race with a lot of motivation, I rested and I didn’t lose too much time. I have found the right balance between training and being ready to race again on May 1st. Everyone is strong all the time when they start again, and it is important to come back to the race in very good condition. I hope to be quickly rewarded for my efforts now.”
The briefing
“Formerly called Grand Prix de Francfort, Eschborn-Frankfurt is a great classic on the UCI World-Tour calendar. It is an event that often crowns sprinters who manage to negotiate the hilly road course well. It is a race that is often played out in a sprint, but in a small group, with a peloton of about 30 to 40 riders. We have Hugo and Dan in our squad who will be our assets if they manage to get over the bumps. They have a good group around them, which will help them to get into position and to understand the difficulties in the first part of the race. The objective is to try to have our two sprinters at the finish in the group that will be able to fight for the victory”.
