On the line

“I was at a disadvantage on this stage, I had to make a big effort to catch the group in front. That cost me a lot of energy, but after that, Carlos and I rode hard to try to get back to the front and to win a stage, not to take a place of honour. So there is some frustration, after I got back on the descent but a bit late. After the weeks I have had, it is always good to be in front. It’s not quite there yet, but I hope it will come. The strongest rider wins today anyway”.

The debrief’

“This 8th stage we had checked off. The breakaway was difficult to catch, he made a big effort to get back, which shows that his form is getting better every day. He still lacks a bit of condition. But in all honesty, we were beaten by stronger riders today. Warren came in for second place, he was 4th. He gave himself the means to do the best he could. It’s a good start to the Giro for us, we’ll keep going. Warren and the team are getting better and better, and above all the story isn’t over yet”.
