On the line

This 2022 edition of Liège Bastogne Liège was quite special with a big breakaway and then this crash that affected many riders in the middle of the descent, including Elie for us. I wasn’t at 100% because of pollen allergy in the last days, but I didn’t want to hide behind that. I had done the hardest by hanging on in the Roche aux Faucons, but in the second part I lost contact. Then I hung on until the finish and finished 15th. I didn’t miss much to get a good result today. It was disappointing but at the same time satisfying that the legs responded until 600 metres from the finish, because the finish was almost at the top. It was a good block of one-day races since the beginning of the year, I knew how to respond. Now it’s time for a rest, and then the second part of the season”.

The debrief

“15th in Liège Bastogne Liège is not a bad result, but I am frustrated, and it’s the same for Warren, because he didn’t miss anything to join the group that is playing for the 2nd place, and then in case of a sprint in small groups, Warren has already shown that he knows how to do it! He folded physically in the “repecho” that followed the Roche aux Faucons. It’s not a bad result, and with a little bit of luck, he can get a 5th place. The sporting result is not all bad. Our thoughts are also with Lukasz and Elie who crashed and are currently undergoing tests, and for all the other riders who went down in the middle of the descent with less than sixty kilometres to go.”
