Tour de France (stage 9) : Nairo Quintana nows 10th overall

Warren Barguil was in the breakaway on the first alpine stage of the Tour de France. In Châtel, Nairo Quintana finishes 10th and enters the top ten of the overall classification.

“The legs are OK but on the Tour they have to be even better. When you are in front it’s to play for the win. I hope that will happen in the next few days. When I saw that it didn’t, I got out of the way and helped Nairo for the end of the stage.”

“The guys stuck to the plan of the day: put Warren in the breakaway while working for the overall around Nairo. Until the breakaway came, it was a blackboard, they did a good job. We will remember that what we did today, we will repeat it on this Tour. The other positive point is that Nairo gains a place in the general classification without showing any after-effects from yesterday’s crash and that’s the most important thing.”
