Vuelta (16th stage) : Clément Russo 8th in Tomares

Finishing 8th of a uphill sprint in Tomares, in Andalusia, Clément Russo signs the 5th top 10 of the Team Arkea-Samsic on this Vuelta Ciclista a España 2022.

“It was a crazy final! Roglic attacking in the steep part of the stage with less than 3 kilometres to go. It was a very, very long sprint. I was at Dan’s service in order to put him in the best position for the finish, but he told me that he couldn’t follow any more on the steep part. So I continued my effort. I finished 8th. But I really went all the way to the finish of the 16th stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España”.

Sébastien Hinault, sport director

“Another top 10! We came to this Vuelta Ciclista a España to win a stage, but we have to admit that the level of this race is very high. But we don’t despair of being able to do it by the end of the race. I had warned the riders this morning during the briefing that the final could be favourable to a power move of a leader who would have wanted to anticipate the sprint. I could have imagined an attack from Roglic! He cleaned up the race and kept many sprinters away from the victory. Clément is going for an 8th place in Tomares. Dan told him that in the final he didn’t have the legs, that he was in the middle of the race and that he could go for a sprint”.
