La Polynormande : Warren Barguil returns to racing

Warren Barguil will make his return to racing on the roads of the Polynormande this Sunday, the 13th round of the French Cup. It will also be the first race for Pierre Thierry, a trainee in the colours of the Arkéa-Samsic team and recent bronze medallist in the U23 time trial at the Championnat de France de l’Avenir.

“It’s the first time I will participate and the course is far from being easy. In the country of Daniel Mangeas, it will be a nice French Cup race on which we want to shine. After a difficult period following the covid, I hope that my legs will be fine.”

Pierre Thierry

“I feel in good shape because I have been preparing well for the French U23 Championship this week. I will discover the professional world with the Arkéa-Samsic team during the Polynormande. There is a special feeling and pride in racing for a Breton team, alongside riders like Warren or Laurent, for me who also come from this region. I am expecting a different level than in the amateurs of course but I will arrive with some reference points. The race profiles in Brittany and Normandy correspond well to me and as far as the Polynormande is concerned, I have already competed in other categories.”

Arnaud Gérard, sport director

“It will be Warren’s and Matîs’ comeback in his region after the Tour. We have a really good team at the start and they will be eager to get a good result. Especially since we are adding our trainee Pierre Thierry who is in good shape after his good 3rd place in the time trial of the French U23 Championships. For him, this will be a great first experience. The Polynormande is still difficult to read because few teams want to take responsibility for the race on a circuit finish.”
